Marvel Films has been spilling a few details on its upcoming movies – to shareholders. In its annual financial report, the company gave few solid facts, but did confirm one major bit of news.
Screenwriter Zak Penn, who’s becoming something of a Marvel company favourite (especially after X-Men: The Last Stand grossed so much money despite lukewarm reviews), has been hired to write the big screen version of The Avengers.
The group is described by Marvel as: "Earth's mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful superhero team in the world." The team’s make-up changes constantly in the comics, though notable members include Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Ronin, Thor, Wasp and Hercules. It’s unlikely that those who are successful franchises on their own (goodbye, Spidey) will appear, but it’s certainly an interesting idea.
There’s no word on exactly which heroes will be in the team yet – and Penn is already busy writing the new Incredible Hulk film. But stay tuned for more news.
