We may have to wait until February to see it over here, but Disney’s latest ‘toon, Wreck-It Ralph, has already won over US audiences. As multiplexes began to reopen on the East Coast following Superstorm Sandy, the video game-inspired film earned a Disney animation record opening weekend, with $49.1 million and first place.

Robert Zemeckis’ return to live action with Denzel Washington pic Flight was also a success, earning $25 million for a solid second place. Ben Affleck's Argo was pushed down to third, but continues to do well, making $10.2 million for a $75.8 million total so far. Third newcomer of the week, RZA’s The Man With The Iron Fists, launched in fourth with $8.2 million. And rounding out the top five we find Taken 2, which jumped back up one place with $6 million.

Sixth was Cloud Atlas, down from second with $5.2 million. Hotel Transylvania was seventh, earning $4.5 million just ahead of Paranormal Activity 4 in eighth and $4.3 million. Ninth place went to Here Comes The Boom, which took in $3.6 million while Silent Hill: Revelation slipped to 10th with $3.3 million.
