Hands up who wants to see a Paris Hilton musical? Hands up who wants to see a Paris Hilton musical from the director of the Saw sequels? And, finally, hands up who wants to see a Paris Hilton musical from the director of the Saw sequels that revolves around organ failure?
Now, unless you've all become spontaneously paralysed, most of you aren't that excited. But you'd be so wrong not to add Repo! The Genetic Opera immediately to your list of 2008 must-sees. It's so weird that it can only be either absolute whacked-out genius or a complete train wreck that you just can't tear your eyes from. Look, it even has an exclamation point.
Darren Lynn Bousman directs a cast that includes Hilton, Sarah Brightman (of Phantom of the Opera stageshow fame), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Bill Mosely (The Devil's Rejects), Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega (Spy Kids). And the story? Well, we can't entirely make sense of it, so here's what the press release says.
"Set in the not-so-distant future, the production tells the story of an epidemic of organ failures that devastates the planet, killing tens of millions. As scientists feverishly make plans for a massive organ harvest program, a multi-billion dollar biotech company called GeneCo begins to manufacture salvation — for a price — offering simple payment plans to those lacking the necessary funds to purchase new body parts outright. But all financed organs are subject to default procedures, including repossession at the hand of the notorious organ repo men."
And all that with songs! It's going to be amazing! Or awful! Either's fine.
