It’s been almost a year since we last we saw Keira Knightly swashbuckling her way through the choppy waters of the Caribbean with Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp and a very wriggly-faced Bill Nighy, in the second instalment of the planet-smashing Pirates trilogy. On the other hand, it seems it’s only been about nine minutes since James McAvoy last appeared on our screens, with an impressive run of films – The Last King Of Scotland, Starter For Ten, Becoming Jane – all released within the last six months. Joe Wright’s adaptation of Ian McEwan’s award-winning novel Atonement, which unites Knightly and McAvoy, might not hit cinemas until September, but Empire can now exclusively reveal the first teaser for the movie.
Split between the idyllic English Countryside and the epic battles of the Second World War, Atonement follows Cecilia Tallis (Knightly) and Robbie Turner (McAvoy) as Cecilia’s younger sister Briony commits a heinous betrayal that sends the pair into heartbreakingly separate directions. Wright and Knightly will no doubt be hoping to re-concoct the winning formula they found whilst making 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, but why not see for yourself by clicking here to watch the trailer.
