There is a truth universally acknowledged that… No, can’t use that to start the story. Call Me Ish…. No! Look, we all get writer’s block from time to time and that’s the problem faced by Rory Jansen (Bradley Cooper) in The Words. The first trailer for the film is below.
Jansen is struggling to get his writing career moving. He’s short on funds, and while he has the support of his loving wife Dora (Zoe Saldana), he’s just not finding the inspiration he needs. Then he stumbles on an entire, fully formed story of love and loss and heartbreak and decides that, since no one appears to have claimed it, he’ll transcribe the whole thing and put it under his own name. It’s a smash hit, but then he’s approached by an old man (Jeremy Irons), who delivers a shock – yup, Rory’s a word thief! Cue moral quandaries ahoy and much tension.
Splitting time between Rory’s dilemma and the love story he pilfers, The Words boasts a hefty cast, including Olivia Wilde, Dennis Quaid, JK Simmons, John Hannah, Ben Barnes and Michael McKean. It’ll be out across the pond on September 21, but there’s no set UK date yet.
