Some premieres have fast cars and girls in hotpants, others have 60s music and go-go dancing and some even have gelatinous blue blobs and giant Reese Witherspoons. And then there are the premieres where no effort is apparently required.

As Team Efron rolled into town for the London stop on its 17 Again worldwide roadshow, teens lined the streets for a glimpse of their idol, and no flashy gimmicks were needed to add to the experience.

Indeed, no other talent at all was on hand to pad out the evening, and instead the baying crowd was entertained by a series of tween-friendly z-listers such as Same Difference, the English one from High School Musical 3, and Max and OB off Hollyoaks.

Meanwhile, our slick-quiffed pin-up worked the crowds with panache in the face of screams to outstrip any Twilight convention.

Making his way to speak to Empire, Efron dodged all off-message questions, including the hot potato of why he kicked off his Sunday shoes and dropped out of Footloose, or whether he is indeed up next to play Johnny Quest alongside Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Instead, he told us about his reception here in London: "It was definitely crazy out there. I hear some of the girls were there for hours and hours. I just want to show em a good time, and I hope I don't disappoint!"

Which was nice to know. And following those perfectly minded Ps and Qs as Efron headed inside the cinema, Empire remembered that unfortunately we are not 17 again, and that it was time to go home for a cup of tea and a nice sit down.
