If we've learned anything from the movies, it's that scientists like to meddle with forces that man was not meant te' ken. You can barely turn around in movieland without some whitecoated do-gooder bringing disaster upon us all. And here comes yet another terrifying example in Splice, as two scientists create a human/animal hybrid.
Played by Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, the pair have already had considerable success with a new animal species that can secrete useful proteins for use in human pharmaceuticals. Now they try, in defiance of any number of ethical considerations, to create a human/animal hybrid. Guess what? Things don't go according to plan.
It's all directed by Vincenzo Natali, the twisted mind who brought us the thoroughly creepy Cube. You can see the finished film on July 2 here in the UK, or in the US on June 4.
Now, if you'll excuse us, we're just going to combine this strand of DNA with that protein and - oh god, run! RUN!
