It’s been a day of losses and gains for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen follow-up, Sucker Punch!, the wild female-driven action thriller about a girl’s attempts to escape a mental asylum.
First, as you can see, the movie’s official title appears to have gained an exclamation mark. Second, it’s lost not one, but two cast members, with Emma Stone and Evan Rachel Wood dropping out of the movie due to scheduling conflicts.
Never fear, though, for Snyder has moved quickly to replace them with Jena Malone and Jamie Chung [pictured] joining the already-cast Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish and Emily Browning, who will take the lead role.
As well as details about Malone and Chung’s characters – Malone will play the younger sister of Cornish’s character, while Chung is Amber, a country girl with a big heart – more has emerged about the plot of the film, which will be Snyder’s first movie that isn’t based on an existing property.
Set in the 1950s, the film will see Browning, confined to an asylum by her evil stepfather, forge an alternate reality where she must steal five objects in order to help her escape. The other actresses will play her cohorts in a movie that should give QT a run for his money in the ass-kicking femme fatale stakes. Frankly, we can’t wait.
Snyder will direct and produce, via his Cruel And Unusual Films company, with his wife, Deborah.
