We’ve seen Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raines, but we haven’t yet seen Eli Roth, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger or any of the rest of Quentin Tarantino’s **Inglourious Basterds **– but after two new stills showed up online today, we’re getting a hell of a lot closer.
In the first still, a mid-shot of Pitt assessing his troops, we see some of the Basterds – the squad of ultra-hard Jewish soldiers who cause havoc behind enemy lines in Occupied France during WWII – from behind. Usually, we’re good at identifying actors, but we’re not that good, so we’ve no idea who Pitt is eyeballing here. Doesn’t look like Roth… could it be The Office’s Novak? Schweiger? Readers, any ideas? The second still is our first glimpse at the tavern, La Lousiane, that plays a pivotal role in what should be one of the film’s best and most tense scenes. We won’t say too much, but the still shows Diane Kruger, as German movie star Bridget von Hammersmark playing a drinking game with five Nazi soldiers.
So far, so good – Basterds, as you might expect, is one of our most eagerly anticipated movies of 2009, and we can't wait to see Pitt, Kruger and the rest in action at the film's Cannes debut next year.
