If, since our description of the footage at last weekend’s Comic-Con panel, you’ve been eagerly awaiting your first proper look at material from Man Of Steel, we’d caution you to temper your expectations for this first teaser, watchable below. Because it doesn’t contain a lot of that.
brightcove.createExperiences();What we get instead is a quiet, stylish and above all, slightly haunting little mood piece. You’d be forgiven for initially thinking it’s a promo for the new season of Deadliest Catch or whatever other peril at sea reality shows are out there, featuring a bearded Henry Cavill working a trawler. It’s intercut with shots of a young Clark Kent and some washing, as his dad Jonathan (Kevin Costner) gives him a talk about what sort of man he wants to grow up to be.
Of course, we know what sort of man he becomes – a Superman – and after making us patiently wait, we are at least rewarded with a quick look at Supes flying very, very fast.
And if you'd rather hear Russell Crowe's Jor-El giving our hero advice, there's another version of the teaser, with identical footage, but different narration also online...
brightcove.createExperiences();It’s early days for the marketing on this one, especially since Man Of Steel doesn’t arrive until June 14 next year, but it’s at least a good idea of what the movie’s basic tone will be. Still, we’re anxious to see more, especially the likes of Crowe, Amy Adams (as Lois Lane) and Michael Shannon (as General Zod, even if director Zack Snyder refuses to confirm it).
