From the looks of this first trailer, Woody Allen’s latest, Irrational Man, finds the writer/director in familiar territory. Follow along with us as we check off what you can expect.

Joaquin Phoenix is part of the focus here, playing a disaffected intellectual (check) who is given a new assignment at a picturesque place, this time a swanky American college (check) and finds something that helps him feel that much more alive and connected to people (check).

In this case, that new outlook on life comes courtesy of Emma Stone, who plays a beautiful student quite taken with the prof despite his initially gloomy outlook on life. But then there is Parker Posey’s fellow academic, who also strikes up a relationship with Phoenix’s Abe Lucas. Oh, and it all unspools to a jazzy soundtrack (checkity check).

With Jamie Blackley, Ethan Phillips, Meredith Hagner, Ben Rosenfield and David Aaron Baker aboard, **Irrational Man **will be out in the US on July 24, but has yet to lock in a UK date.
