First announced as heading into production a year ago, here is the trailer for Mindscape, in which Mark Strong goes poking about inside the head of Taissa Farmiga and must face the mind-boggling consequences. Brian Cox, Noah Taylor and Saskia Reeves look on from the sidelines.
As you'll have gathered from that, Strong plays some sort of investigator with the power to wander around inside people's memories. He's brought in to unravel a mystery surrounding a troubled teenager, but gets out of his depth when it seems she's able to manipulate what he experiences, making his version of events as unreliable as hers. Is she a killer or a victim? Like, woah.
There are a few shades of **Inception **here, obviously, but also some echoes of The Cell - minus the insane production design. Familiar concepts then, but that doesn't mean **Mindscape **can't effectively find its own way.
Jaume Collet-Serra's (Orphan, Unknown) name is all over this, but he's actually the producer. The director is Jorge Dorado, making his debut as top man, although his credits as an assistant director go back to 1999 and include Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone. That's some good schooling.
**Mindscape **has no release dates yet outside of Spain. Collet-Serra's next film as director, Non-Stop (with Liam Neeson again) is out in the UK on February 28
