All eyes might be on Hitchcock, the period drama that sees Anthony Hopkins playing the director alongside a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Helen Mirren. But what of the scrappy underdog, the TV movie that will focus on Hitch’s obsession with Tippi Hedren as he makes The Birds? **The Girl **has already released a trailer, which you can watch below.
Toby Jones (who is probably wishing he didn’t take big historical roles that end up going up against bigger movies after Infamous) is Hitchcock, with Sienna Miller as the object of his unrequited affection, Hedren. Imelda Staunton is playing his wife, Alma, who notices that her hubby has become noticeably enchanted by the beautiful model he cast in the squawk-filled psycho-thriller.
A co-production between HBO and the BBC, The Girl looks to be every inch the high-class production and promises to explore the fraught shoot of The Birds and the emotional fireworks behind it.
America will get to see it on HBO this October 20. There’s been no solid airdate for the UK yet, though it’s been rumoured for a December arrival.
