The Hudsucker Proxy followed Barton Fink; Burn After Reading followed No Country For Old Men; and continuing that trend of a serious film followed by a fun one, The Coen Brothers' next after the low-key Inside Llewyn Davis is Hollywood kidnap caper Hail Caesar!. They've assembled a stellar cast of favourite collaborators and Coen newbies for this one, and the first trailer has just arrived.
Set during one of the golden ages of the big studio system, the film is focused on private detective turned movie company fixer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), who tracks down and covers up scandals among contracted players and directors. His current case involves him digging into the mysterious disappearance of a big star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) mid-way through a shoot.
Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Clancy Brown, Christopher Lambert, Robert Picardo and Dolph Lundgren (no, really) are among the rest of the ridiculous cast with Clooney and Brolin; and Hail Caesar! is out in the UK on February 26 next year.
