The trailer for Love The Beast, Eric Bana’s debut as a documentary maker, has just gone online over at the official we… whoa, hold on a second.
Yep – when most Hollywood A-listers are measuring their trailers so they can run crying to their agents, Bana – next to be seen as the bad guy in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek – has been quietly making a documentary for the past couple of years.
And if you’re trying to figure out what it’s about, the title doesn’t give a lot away. But the list of participants might – for they include one Jeremy Clarkson.
So, naturally, if Him Off Of Top Gear is taking part, then Love The Beast must be about cars. Namely, Bana’s very first car, a 1974 Ford Falcon Coupe, lovingly nicknamed The Beast.
The documentary purports to explore the nature of obsession, following Bana and three lifelong friends as he traces his history with The Beast and then takes it to race in one of the world’s most dangerous races, The Targa Tasmania. Along the way, Clarkson, Leno and Dr. Phil all appear as interviewees.
Sounds interesting – and the footage, including early shots of a younger Bana whooping it up, looks fascinating. "I am very excited about this project,” he said in a statement. “It has been both fun and incredibly exhausting at the same time and has enabled me to combine my two passions: cars and filmmaking. It started out as a simple project, but events along the way conspired to turn it into something I could never have envisioned.”
The movie will hopefully be out in the UK next year – it opens in Australia in March, so expect it around the same time. To watch the full trailer, go to the official website, www.lovethebeast.com
