Timothy Hutton has joined the cast of Roman Polanski’s new thriller, The Ghost.

Hutton will play the American lawyer of the British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan) in the thriller, based on Robert Harris’ best-selling book. The already-cast Ewan McGregor will star as a ghostwriter who is hired to write the PM’s memoirs, only to stumble upon a secret that puts his life in jeopardy. Run, Ewan, run!

Hutton, who won an Oscar in 1981 for Ordinary People, has never quite become a big star, but he’s carved out a decent career for himself over the years, with the likes of Beautiful Girls and The Dark Half standing out. He’s currently starring in Leverage, a heist show on TNT, which has just been renewed for a second season.

The Ghost – which represents, for Polanski, a successful attempt to adapt a Robert Harris novel after the plug was pulled on Pompeii during pre-production – will start filming this week in Berlin, with the likes of James Belushi, Kim Cattrall and the world’s busiest man, Tom Wilkinson, bolstering the heavyweight duo of Brosnan and McGregor.
