Star Trek XI Has A Script
As you may have noticed, 2007 is already set to be remembered as the year of threequel, with a host of franchise third instalments hitting screens over the next twelve months. For many, 2008 on the other hand, will all be about the eleventh, er, quel. Yes, Star Trek is heading back to the big screen next year in what will be it’s eleventh – or ‘XIth’ for all you Romans – cinema outing. It’s been confirmed that MI:3 helmer J.J Abrams has a script, and that the story will appeal to both hardened Trekkies and the uninitiated. The director told Entertainment Weekly, “On the one hand, for people who love Star Trek, the fix that they will get will be really satisfying. For people who've never seen it or know it vaguely, I think they will enjoy it equally, because the movie does not require you to know anything about Star Trek. I would actually prefer [that] people don't know the series, because I feel like they will come to it with an open mind."
Meanwhile, William ‘Captain Kirk’ Shatner has revealed that he’s been approached by Abrams to play an as yet unwritten role in the movie. The actor also let slip that the plot will concern Kirk and Spock’s formative years in the Starfleet Academy.
Yvonne De Carlo RIP
Following yesterday’s news that renowned Italian movie producer and husband of actress Sophia Loren Carlo Ponti had died, it’s been revealed that another key figure from the world of cinema has passed away. Yvonne De Carlo, best known for her role as Lily Munster, in US sitcom The Munsters died on Monday at the age of 84.
Although she will be predominantly remembered for her television roles, De Carlo acted opposite some of Hollywood’s greatest performers, including Burt Lancaster, Clark Gable and most famously, Charlton Heston – playing Moses’ wife in The Ten Commandments. She is survived by her son and step-daughter.
