You’ve already had the chance to weigh in on the look of the Tracy brothers, Lady Penelope and Brains from the new Thunderbirds Are Go! series. Now the show has a chance to show what it can do with a better selection of footage thanks to the trailer. Can it win people over? Will Supermarionation still rule the day over the new blend of CGI and models? Take a look below and decide for yourself.

Thunderbirds Are Go! hails from the ITV Studios, Pukeko Pictures and the Weta team in New Zealand, blends regular model work with CG, anime-inflected versions of the characters in the hopes of smoothing out some of the weird transitions that used to occur between Gerry Anderson’s Supermarionation – which had puppets for most of the shots, then used real hands for close-ups.

A lot of the series’ touchstones are here – Tracy Island, the various vehicles, Lady Penelope and her tricked-out Rolls Royce, plus threats from villain The Hood – but all have been given a whizzy CG spin for The Kids Today. We note they still couldn’t find anything to beat that classic countdown, though, at least for this first look.

With the likes of Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kayvan Novak, Rosamund Pike, David Menkin, Andres Williams, Adjoa Andoh, Angel Coulby, Sandra Dickinson, Rasmus Hardiker and original series veteran David Graham (back as Parker), the show will broadcast on CITV from April 15.
