“Come with me if you want to live… forever! I’m gonna learn how to fly – high! I feel it coming together! People will see me and cry…”
Yes, readers – as the viewer of Terminator TV spin-off, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will know, Thomas Dekker has carved out a niche for himself as the fourth, and whiniest, on-screen John Connor (Christian Bale will be the fifth – points for getting the other three, without recourse to the IMDb).
But with that show apparently in trouble, Dekker is in talks to take a lead role in the probably eagerly-awaited remake of Fame.
Dekker will play a working-class wannabe actor called Marco, who competes with thousands of other hopefuls to bag a few places at an elite New York public high school for the arts.
He’ll line up alongside other stereotypes – sorry, fully fleshed-out characters – including a would-be filmmaker, a dancer, a salsa musician, a reclusive pianist and, our personal favourite, a slam poet. No film these days is complete without a slam poet. The Dark Knight would have been even better if it had had a slam poet.
Kevin Tancharoen is directing the remake for MGM, with cameras set to roll next February. People will see it and cry next September.
