Things Are Awkward In The First Maleficent Clip

It’s always awkward when you hold a big party for your child and someone you don’t really like shows up uninvited. It’s even worse if that person happens to be a dark fairy holding a massive grudge and sporting magical powers, but that’s the situation confronting the characters in this first clip from Maleficent.

The film, of course, spins some backstory for the Sleeping Beauty tale, exploring just why it is the title character (Angelina Jolie) has such a big problem with the human likes of King Stefan (Sharlto Copley), and the reasons why she decides to curse the young Princess Aurora (who grows up to become Elle Fanning). Turns out, Maleficent was badly wronged by some in the kingdom and she’s looking for a little justice. And if she can claim vengeance at the same time? That's just a bonus. What’s a little dark magic between enemies?

Maleficent finds Robert Stromberg directing from a script by Linda Woolverton and Charles Perrault, featuring Juno Temple, Brenton Thwaites, Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville and Kenneth Cranham. It’ll fly into UK cinemas on May 28 before arriving in the US on May 30.
