We caught Adam Wingard’s latest thriller, The Guest, at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where we liked what we saw. The film is headed to UK cinemas and the first teaser has now arrived online.
Dan Stevens – in a role a world away from the good-natured Matthew Crawley of Downton Abbey – is David, a soldier who shows up at the home of the Peterson family claiming to be a friend of their late son who died in action. Initially offered a warm welcome, things quickly start to go wrong.
Though David appears to be a charming, friendly fellow, a series of unexplained, apparently accidental deaths start happening, and he seems to be connected to all of them. Could this new arrival in fact be a harbinger of doom? Look, he used to appear on Downton Abbey, so of course people die around him…
Crafted by Wingard and regular collaborator Simon Barrett, The Guest also features Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Sheila Kelley, Brendan Meyer and Lance Reddick, and will finagle its way into UK cinemas on September 5 via Icon Pictures and is set for the same month from Picturehouse in the US.
