Good news for fans of the cracking Vertigo comic-book series, The Losers – a movie version is on the way, to be directed by Sylvain White, who previously helmed, erm, Stomp The Yard.
That may seem like potentially bad news, especially when you consider that White also has DTV sequel, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, on his CV. But for all its faults, Stomp The Yard had some nice visuals and, since it proved successful, the director has turned his attention to more commercial and altogether cooler projects.
He's currently developing another graphic novel adaptation – of Frank Miller's Ronin – and was set to direct a big-screen version of videogame Castlevania before the Writers' Strike put the kibosh on that.
But now The Losers – based on the Andy Diggle-penned 32-issue Vertigo (the swearin', sexin', shootin' mature imprint of DC Comics) series about a group of Special Forces commandos who gun for revenge against the superiors who tried to have them killed – is coming together nicely, a world away from any stomped yards or hooded serial killers.
The movie has been scripted by Jamie Vanderbilt, who was recently replaced as screenwriter on Spider-Man 4, while Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment has replaced Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures as the film's financier (WB will distribute, though). Silver will produce along with Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster.
Filming will start early next year.
