Super Trailer Is Here

Did you enjoy the subversive, sick and twisted style that James Gunn brought to the Nathan Fillion/Michael Rooker/Elizabeth Banks horror comedy Slither? Wondering what would happen if he crossbred that warped sensitivity with a Kick-Ass-style tale of a have-a-go-hero? Wonder no more: the Super trailer has arrived and you can watch it below.

Super follows what happens when startlingly dull ordinary bloke Frank D’Arbo (Rainn Wilson)’s wife (Liv Tyler) is stolen away by charismatic drug dealer Jacques (Kevin Bacon). Heartbroken and sick of what crime has done to his city, D’Arbo decides to become a superhero, and re-invents himself as The Crimson Bolt, a warrior with a zero tolerance policy for wrongdoers and zero idea how to do the job properly.

Cue madness, mayhem and a little of the ultra-violence as Frank goes about his mission with zeal. Soon, he reluctantly acquires a “kid sidekick” in the form of Ellen Page’s enthusiastic Libby, who dons her own costume to be “Boltie”.

Boasting a mix of Gunn veterans (including Fillion, Rooker, and Gregg Henry) and some new faces (Linda Cardellini, The Wire’s Andre Royo), Super looks like an insane time at the cinema. We caught a chunk (plus a hilarious panel with Gunn, Wilson, Fillion and more) at Comic-Con last year, so we’re looking forward to this one.

The film is out in the US on April 1, but doesn’t yet seem to have a UK release date. Curses!
