Green Lantern is going Down Under.
Martin Campbell’s superhero flick, based on the DC comic about an ordinary man who is transformed into a hero when he wields an all-powerful ring (steady now…), will shoot at Fox Studios Australia, with pre-production on the $150 million movie beginning in July.
The news was announced, strangely, not by Warner Bros., the studio funding the movie, but by New South Wales’ premier, Nathan Rees, who added that the move would create about 500 jobs for the Australian film industry, with digital effects work also taking place in Australia.
With the Australian dollar currently weaker than Stefan Dennis’ singing career, Green Lantern isn’t the only Warners’ movie to head Down Under. Happy Feet 2 and Zack Snyder’s animated movie, Guardians Of Ga’Hoole, are also going to shoot down there.
No casting has yet been announced on the project, but with a November shoot pencilled in, that can’t be too far off. Watch this space etc. etc.
