Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been heralding its arrival on Twitter for a while now, and the day has finally arrived – the first trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has sauntered its way online and you can watch it below.
Stranger Tides, with Rob Marshall taking over the director’s chair from franchise regular Gore Verbinski, finds Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow off on one of his usual mad sprees.
This time, he’s on a quest to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Oh, and he also runs afoul of former flame Angelica (Penelope Cruz) and sea-faring scoundrel Blackbeard (Ian McShane, who we fear won’t be quite as creatively vulgar as his Al Swearengen was on Deadwood, what with this being a family film and all).
Geoffrey Rush is back as Barbossa with some of Jack’s regular crew (Kevin McNally) present and correct. Also aboard are newcomers Richard Griffiths (King George II), Gemma Ward, Sam Clafin and Oscar Jaenada.
Mermaids, zombies and all manner of other threats abound, not to mention the usual run-in with His Majesty's forces. Looks like business as usual for Jack 'n' co, though hopefully with the less cluttered storyline of the original Pirates outing.
Have a stare at the trailer and let us know your thoughts. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides arrives on May 18.
