It’s only taken a decade but they’re finally here: after huge pressure from fans, LucasFilm is releasing the original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars trilogy on DVD in the autumn.
The limited edition two-disc DVDs will include the remastered and digitally restored versions of the films, but the real killer will be the bonus material: namely the original versions of each film.
“Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original versions that they remember experiencing in theaters,” said Jim Ward, senior vice president of Lucasfilm Ltd. “We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we’re very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars.”
Released on September 11, they’ll be off the shelves in December, so get your order in now.
