It’s been mooted for so long that Yoda was a youngling when the rumours started, but at long last it’s been confirmed: the Star Wars saga is coming to Blu-ray, from September.
So that's another eight months or so until George Lucas’ space saga explodes onto your screen with all the hi-def beauty money can buy. Who’s scruffy-looking? Not Star Wars. Not anymore. Expect the revamped and remastered digital versions of all six films to look as bright and shiny as Threepio’s golden hide.
The films will be available in three formats, with all six films included in The Complete Saga box-set, a Death Star-sized behemoth which will include an additional three discs of extras and features, spanning over 30 hours. Apparently, this will include brand-new deleted and alternate scenes. Intriguing…
If your tastes don’t run to the prequel trilogy, though, you can plump for the An Original Blu-Ray Trilogy box set, which will include A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. No word yet, though, on whether these discs will carry the original versions. In other words, we don’t know if Greedo will shoot first.
But if you love the prequels, then the A Prequel Trilogy box set will include The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones (yes, yes, we gave it five stars; we were young and drunk) and – best of the new movies – Revenge Of The Sith. One thing’s for sure – these movies should look and sound absolutely amazing on Blu-ray.
The box sets are available to buy online now, at whichever retailer floats your boat.
