In our experience, dear readers, Alfred Molina is a lovely man. Yet for some reason the Brit actor is most memorable on-screen as a villain, from Satipo in Raiders Of The Lost Ark to Doc Ock in **Spider-Man 2 **and, erm, Boris ‘The Butcher’ Blavasky in The Man Who Knew Too Little.
And now he’s about to add another blackheart to that list, after signing on to star alongside Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel in Disney’s The Sorceror’s Apprentice.
Cage and Baruchel have, of course, been cast in the Jon Turteltaub-directed, Jerry Bruckheimer-produced movie for quite a while, but today details finally emerged of the plot.
Cage will play a sorceror named Balthazar Blake, who takes Baruchel’s college student under his wing and teaches him everything he knows. Molina will play the evil wizard, Horvath, who’s presumably up to no good, as is an evil wizard’s wont.
Australian actress Teresa Palmer has also joined the cast, as Baruchel’s love interest. Filming on the whole kit and caboodle will start this month in New York, where the movie takes place.
