After breaking into directing movies with London To Brighton and following that up with several horrors, Paul Allen Williams has definitely shifted gears for his latest, the distinctly cockle-warming Song For Marion. The first trailer is now online and can be seen below.
brightcove.createExperiences();The film finds Empire** Podcast legend Terence Stamp as a grumpy, hard-to-please pensioner married to the cheerful, ever-optimistic Marion (Vanessa Redgrave).
Marion loves to perform and is part of a local choir, an idea that Arthur abhors. Even the presence of enthusiastic, beautiful choir director Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) can’t encourage him. But then Marion’s already tenuous health worsens and she asks that Arthur take her place in the choir. Arthur hates being in the spotlight, but adores Marion, so he begrudgingly agrees. Along the way, he also figures he has to start reaching out more to estranged son James (Christopher Eccleston).
This one will appear at the London Film Festival, but there seems to be no word on a regular release date yet. On this evidence, however, we'll be keeping an eye out for it.
