Your average family man probably wouldn’t want to go undercover in a drug cartel as part of a deal to help free his son from jail. But apparently one did, as that’s the true story forming the core of action thriller Snitch. Then again, if anyone was able to go up against a drug lord, it would be Dwayne Johnson, as he proves in the film’s first trailer. Check it out above.

Snitch, directed by Ric Roman Waugh, finds The Rock as a father whose teenage son is accused of drug smuggling. With his kid facing 10 years in the slammer and unwilling to rat out anyone to reduce his sentence, pop decides to take matters into his own hands and risk everything to aid the authorities and, more importantly, spare his child from time behind bars. Yes, this sort of thing actually happens - there's an interesting article on the subject of people convicted of petty drug offences being pressed into use as informers here.

From the looks of this first trailer, Snitch could either prove to be an enjoyable action romp with a serious undercurrent, or it could stumble into a cheesier vein of cinema. But in The Rock we trust.

He’s surrounded by the likes of Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper, Benjamin Bratt, Jon Bernthal and, in a move that means we have The Rock facing off against The Wire’s Omar, Michael Kenneth Williams.

The truck crashes, fist fights and blokes snarling through beards all kicks off on April 5.
