Slumdog, Milk Dominate WGA Awards

Beaufoy needs new mantlepiece

Still basking in the glory of the BAFTAs - AKA 'Slumdog Night' - writer Simon Beaufoy collected another gong, this time from the Writers Guild of America, for his screenplay for Danny Boyle's Bollywood fairytale.

Beaufoy beat off Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon and the Nolans' dark horse **Dark Knight **script, to win the best adapted screenplay gong for his skilful adaptation of Vikas Swarup's Q&A. And there's a strong chance he'll need to clear even more space on his mantlepiece, with WGA winners historically likely to go on to win the Academy Award.

Best Original Screenplay went to Dustin Lance Black for his **Milk **script, with Ari Folman's majestic Waltz With Bashir collecting the award for Best Documentary Screenplay.
