Because having his own TV series wasn’t enough to contain his ambitions for media world domination, Aardman’s fluffy favourite Shaun The Sheep is headed for our cinemas. The spin-off film, called, not-too-shockingly, Shaun The Sheep, now boasts a teaser trailer that displays some typically creative Aardman Animation touches.
The movie, which was announced last year, aims to broaden the scope of Shaun’s story, with our woolly hero getting in over his head and lands lanolin trouble. When his latest bout of sheepish mischief accidentally causes the Farmer to be taken away from the farm, it’s up to Shaun and the flock to travel to the Big City to rescue him.
Will Shaun find the Farmer in the strange and unfamiliar world of the City before he’s lost forever? Should we be worried that this will channel the darker tones of previous potential-meat-explores-metropolis film Babe: Pig In The City? We doubt it’ll reach those levels of bleating awful danger.
Shaun and his farmyard friends are usually silent (except for the occasional baa, bark or whatever noise they make), so this will likely be an exercise in a lot of Aardman’s talent for silent film comedy. Mark Burton and Richard Starzack are the people responsible for marshalling the herd, working from their own script. It’ll be out on March 20 next year and we’re certain people will flock… (That’s enough of that – Ed.)
