Only just turned 17 but already boasting a CV other actresses would kill for, Saoirse Ronan is going places. Unfortunately, though, one of those place is *not *Middle-earth. Ronan says that she won't be joining the cast of The Hobbit, leaving Peter Jackson with an elf-shaped vacancy for another lucky thesp.

Ronan has been linked long and often with the part of Itaril, but as she told Empire, she won't be making the journey down to New Zealand for the Tolkien adaptation. "I loved the book and we were talking about if for a while," Ronan said, "but I would have been tied up for a long period of time - they're shooting for over a year - and there were other projects that I had to consider in the meantime.
