If you can hear the mournful tolling of a bell, it’s either because your local church ringers are performing a Cure marathon or it’s the work of an ancient order of monks dedicated to informing the world that a new Nicholas Sparks adaptation is nearing release. In this case, it’s the second option, because the trailer for Safe Haven is now online and can be seen above.
This time around, the plot focuses on Katie Feldman (Julianne Hough), who is fleeing her dark past. She arrives in the picturesque town of Southport, North Carolina and tries to keep to herself. But not everyone is willing to let her simply hide away: Jo (Cobie Smulders) befriends her, and Katie also connects with hunky widower Alex Wheatley (Josh Duhamel), who seems like the perfect match because he’s good with his hands, has two cute kids and looks like Josh Duhamel.
Still, Katie’s initially reluctant until her feelings or the soundtrack get the better of her. Things seem happily montagey until dangerous secrets come back to haunt her. Thanks to the film’s Facebook page, a few new images from the film have also arrived, and you can see them in the gallery below.
With Lasse Hallstrom directing, Safe Haven appears to be another Sparks shot straight for the heartstrings. US audiences will feel the love on February 8, but there’s no set UK date yet. Wonder where it will fit on our Nicholas Sparks flowchart?
