A long-held ambition, Russell Crowe finally got his directorial debut The Water Diviner before cameras last year. We've already seen a sombre introductory featurette, but now he's a full trailer for the Australian historical drama, heralding its imminent release.

Written by Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios, the film follows an Australian man (Crowe) who travels to Turkey after World War II in an attempt to discover what happened to his three sons, who disappeared at Gallipoli.

A brutal, months-long campaign by the Allies against the Ottoman Empire, the battle saw the ANZACs (the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) suffer more than 26,000 casualties. But it wasn’t just those countries involved, and the story explores the relationships the soldiers struck up with, among other people, Turkish nationals.

With Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Yimaz Erdogan and Cem Yilmaz in the cast, The Water Diviner will be out in the UK on April 3.
