Rolling Stones On The Red Carpet

A Rolling Stone, as the old adage goes, gathers no moss and it seemed that at the UK premiere of the rock band's new flick, Empire Online’s roving reporter would gather no quotes - so apologies in advance.

As rock ’n’ roll’s hardest-working pensioners hit Leicester Square to plug their Scorsese-directed concert film, Shine A Light, the Stones were in an upbeat if short-sentenced mood. With the likes of The Klaxons, Kasabian and a tight-lipped Liam Gallagher paying homage to Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie’s god-like presence, the band felt the urge to move on after one fellow reporter (you know who you are!) asked Mick who was better: The Stones or The Beatles...

But before they headed inside the Odeon cinema, Messrs Jagger, Wood and Richards did get to say a few words about the film. On working with Christina Aquilera, who makes a guest appearance in the film alongside Buddy Guy and Jack White, frontman Jagger said “She was great, fantastically professional, very sexy and a lovely singer.”

As for their collaboration with Martin Scorsese, who filmed the career-spanning documentary during the band's A Bigger Band tour, Ronnie Wood had this to say: “He’s brilliant, one of the boys you know.”

And so it fell to Keith Richards, not traditionally known for being the band’s most lucid member, to provide the quote of the evening. When we asked if, after his hilarious turn in Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End, he would ever return to acting, the guitarist said: “I’m going to do Gone With The Wind and my King Lear is going to be fantastic.”

We think he was joking.

However, we did manage to gather a genuine exclusive when grabbing Noel Fielding, aka Vince Noir, for a quick chat. It turns out that a Mighty Boosh movie is in the works.

In between kissing Ronnie Wood on the cheek and slagging off the new Sugar Puffs advert (“Yeah, what’s that about?”), he told us that the long-mooted big-screen version of his and Julian Barratt’s hit BBC comedy is definitely off the starting block.

“Yeah, next year hopefully,” said Noel. “It’s definitely happening. We’re writing it and a few people want to make it, so hopefully it’ll get made. We’re not sure what it’s all going to be about yet but it will be an adventure. We’ll probably go to a few different worlds and it’ll be the weirdest film ever made."
