Keanu Reeves is jumping on to the TV bandwagon with both feet. Last month brought word that’ll he star in and produce a series called Rain and today, the company behind that show, Slingshot Global Media, announced he’s working on New Angeles with Roland Emmerich.
From the sounds of it, the pair – alongside Gregg Hurwitz, who will write the first episode and produce with them – are looking to blend **The Matrix **with something akin to Ernie Cline’s influential book Ready Player One.
The story will take place in the future and focus on a young man who finds an escape from his mundane life in the titular virtual reality world. Inside, he crafts a new identity and becomes the person he was always destined to be. But his actions have consequences that extend back into the real world…
“Gregg is an incredibly imaginative writer, and I’m looking forward to bringing his ideas for the show to life,” says Emmerich in a statement. “It’s exciting to get the opportunity bring a massive project like this to the small screen within a rapidly changing television space.”
Emmerich will direct the pilot and stay involved with the show as an executive producer. Reeves, we imagine, will be on hand to coach whoever plays the lead in how to adequately react to strange virtual worlds, but let's hope he makes an appearance of some sort too.
