Rodriguez Producing Madman

Robert Rodriguez just can't keep away from those comic books, and more power to him. He's signed on to produce an adaptation of Michael Allred's Madman for long time cohorts Dimension Films.

The plot of the comics follows a guy who is killed in a car accident, but reanimated by a slightly loopy doctor/scientist, who gives him enhanced senses, psychic power and amplified physicality (strength, speed, agility – the usual). In fact, about the only thing the doc can't fix is his subject's face. Surely he knows a surgeon-who-knows-a-surgeon in Beverly Hills? Anyway, rather appropriately, the doctor names his creation Frank Einstein, and gives him a nice costume to hide his scars.

Directing honours are going to George Huang, who's most significant cinematic output so far has been the excellent Swimming With Sharks. He's also responsible for adapting the screenplay from Allred's original work. As it was with Frank Miller on Sin City, the Allred will be having major input into the film's production, and it will be shot at Rodriguez's Troublemaker studios down in Texas.

What's not clear just yet is whether it will shoot before or after Sin** City 2**. Either way, nothing's going to happen until at least January, as Tarantino is still using the space to forge his half of Grindhouse, which has a release date of April 6, followed by what you can bet is a huge press tour from both directors.
