Rip Torn Gets Ready For August

With such great comedic turns in recent years (we cite his 'Z' in Men In Black, his 'Artie' in The Larry Sanders Show, and who could forget his legendary Patches O'Houlihan in Dodgeball?) you might think that Rip Torn had been overlooking his dramatic muscles. Not true, but you could be forgiven for it not occurring straight away. He was recently seen playing a grumpy Memphis music legend in Forty Shades Of Blue, and Louis XV in Sophia Coppolla's Marie Antoinette. He's got a lot of supporting work coming up in the next 12 months or so, and now you can add to that an appearance in August, a new film from Austin Chick.

Josh Hartnett has already signed on, according to the Hollywood Reporter, to play "a dot-com entrepreneur who struggles to keep his dream alive in the weeks leading up to September 11." Torn will play his father, but that's about as much character development as we have for now. August starts shooting in two weeks time, in New York.

Also joining the cast is Adam Scott – again, a guy who's getting attention at the moment for roles in comedy, what with appearances in the forthcoming Ratatouille, **The Great Buck Howard **(as part of a big cast headed by John Malkovich), and Knocked Up. He'll be playing Hartnett's brother and co-founder of their little company.
