The Brothers Bloom, the next film for Brick director Rian Johnson, is gathering pace, not to mention a pretty formidable cast. The latest signatures on the cast list are Oscar winner Adrien Brody, and 2007 Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi.
The film centres around a pair of conmen, related by blood, the younger of whom (and we have it on the authority of Variety that this is Brody) falls for one of their marks, played by Rachel Weisz – also an Oscar winner, let’s not forget.
Kichuchi’s role is described as “the brothers’ partner in crime, who may be hiding secrets of her own.” Well duh – it’s noir; of course she is. This is the first role for the Japanese actress since her heartbreaking turn in Babel.
There’s been no announcement of a specific shooting date, but producers are heading to the Berlin festival to try and get a sale, so expect The Brothers Bloom to roll into theatres later this year.
