You can’t tell that Monday is a holiday in the States, because the flow of news from Hollywood has in no way slowed to a miserable trickle as film business types shut off their MacBooks and BlackBerrys and head for the beach. Oh no, sir. There’s tons of news today. Why, there’s the news that, erm… or how about the shock revelation that, umm…

But wait! Actual news! Alice Braga has signed on to star in futuristic action thriller, Repossession Mambo! Yes! We have been saved!

What’s that? You want actual details? Sheesh! OK, here goes.

Brazilian actress Braga, who first came to our attention as Angelica in City Of God, has slowly but surely been carving out a Hollywood career for herself (she speaks perfect English, unlike Empire). She’ll soon be seen opposite Will Smith in I Am Legend, which is also a futuristic action thriller, and David Mamet’s Redbelt, which isn’t.

Anyhoo, onto Repossession Mambo. Yes, it has a really stupid name, but that’s got nothing to do with Braga, as it’s taken from the Eric Garcia novel on which the film is based. It’s directed by Miguel Sapochnik who, according to the ever-correct IMDb, worked on Janice Beard 45wpm as a storyboard artist. And it stars, as well as Braga, Jude Law and Forest Whitaker.

What’s it about? Well, it’s about Law’s repo man who, unable to keep up the repayments on his artificial heart (this is a futuristic action thriller, remember) goes on the run from his former partner (who we’re guessing is played by newly-minted Oscarer, Whitaker).

Braga will play a character named Beth who joins Law, who just happens to be her ex-husband, on the lam. Oh, and like Law, she’s been retrofitted with artificial organs too.

Production begins in Toronto in October, and Universal are picking up the tab.
