Tangerine

Scoring great reviews out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival and praise from audiences at the just-wrapped BFI London Film Festival, co-writer/director Sean Baker’s Tangerine is ready to rumble into general release here next month. To get a taste of the tart dialogue and smart setup, take a look below.

It's Christmas Eve in Hollywood and Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone) hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra (Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity.

Shot entirely on an iPhone from a script by Baker and Chris Bergoch, Tangerine offers a glimpse into a world not often portrayed on screen, and certainly not with this level of depth and thought. Showing the tarnish of Tinseltown, it also offers funny, warm characters and a driving storyline.

With Karren Karagulian, Mickey O'Hagan and Alla Tumanian also in the cast, Tangerine will be out here on November 13.
