Don’t go looking for any real plot points in this new, brief and flesh-full trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike. Because with its 30-second duration, there’s really not much time for more than a lot of shots of Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Matthew McConaughey and the assembled hunks getting their kit off. If that’s what floats your boat, you’ve probably long since stopped reading this and clicked below.
You may already know the plot anyway, which finds Pettyfer’s character (referred to in the credits so far as “The Kid” but christened Adam) being taken under the oiled, gyrating wing of Channing Tatum’s Mike as he shows him the ropes as a male stripper. But Mike wants something more out of life: while stripping pays the bills and certainly garners him lots of female attention, he dreams of running his own designer furniture business. If he doesn’t call it Chippendales, we want our money back.
With Soderbergh behind the camera, and Reid Carolin writing the script based on Tatum’s own memories of stripping, this one will be more than simply shots of the lads bumping and / or grinding to music as howling hordes of ladies ply them with money and drinks. Honest it will.
Oh, and ignore what the spot seems to indicate: **Magic Mike ** is not out until June 29 for US audiences and July 11 for the UK.
