As Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman gear up to shoot robo-boxing drama Real Steel, DreamWorks has finally made official what had been floating around as rumour – Dakota Goyo will co-star with Jackman as his son.

Real Steel follows Jackman as a former boxer in a near-future America where robot boxing have replaced human bouts. Down on his luck and looking for a break, the fighter-turned-promoter/trainer discovers a robot in a junk heap that just might hold the key to his future.

But at the same time, he also reconnects with his estranged son Max, and together the pair must rebuild their relationship as they work on the robot together.

The 10-year-old Goyo is a relative newcomer, but he's been seen in Resurrecting The Champ and recent Woody Harrelson superhero drama Defendor. He got the gig after a masive open casting trawl that Levy and the producers held last month.

Steel will film this year and is planned for release in late 2011.
