In a move that would surely have Ron Burgundy breaking out his best celebratory scotch, the Newseum in Washington D.C. has teamed up with Paramount to plan Anchorman: The Exhibit, which will open shortly before the film’s sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues arrives in US cinemas.
Yes, while news that the film was getting a sequel in the first place surprised and delighted us, word that someone wants to open an exhibit about the film has us picking our jaws up off the floor. In the best possible way, of course. Also, the floor is sticky and covered in cheese.
Displays will include costumes worn by Will Ferrell and the rest of the Channel 4 News Team, and original props such as Ron’s jazz flute and weapons used in the anchor rumble. Brick killed a guy!
There will even be a recreation of the KVWN-TV anchor desk where you can record news videos with an introduction from Ron himself. "For millions of viewers, the news anchor represents the authority and credibility of television news. But anchormen and women also are popular targets for pop culture laughs,” said Cathy Trost, vice president of exhibits and programs at the Newseum in a statement. “The exhibit explores the reality behind the humour of Anchorman and tracks the rise of personality-driven news formats in the 1970s.”
Somehow it feels right to have an exhibition dedicated to an ill-informed, posturing blowhard in a city that also features the US House of Representatives and the Senate. Little bit of politics there, laygennulmen.
