Recently indie horror director Adam Wingard has provided the wraparound set-up to the excellent** V/H/S** and one of the good segments (Q For Quack) to The ABCs Of Death. He's already got his contribution to V/H/S/2 in the can too, but in case you thought he'd retreated permanently into shorts in anthology films after the full-length A Horrible Way To Die a couple of years ago, fear not! Or rather, fear plenty, if this trailer for You're Next is anything to go by.
There's not really much to say here that isn't blindingly obvious: the clip shows a house full of unsuspecting dinner guests set upon from outside by mysterious masked assailants. So far so slasher-generic, you might say... and yet the people who've already caught You're Next on the festival circuit seem cheerfully content that this trailer actually reveals very little of what actually transpires in the film. There's apparently more to it than meets the eye at this stage.
Reading like a who's who of the mumblecore indie horror scene, Wingard co-wrote the film, as is his usual wont, with Simon Barrett, and the featured actors include Ti West (director of House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers); AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg and Amy Seimetz (all from** A Horrible Way To Die**, and Swanberg acted in and directed part of V/H/S); and Calvin Reader and Kate Lyn Sheil (both in V/H/S). Also aboard is the slightly more veteran Barbara Crampton, from Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator and From Beyond.
Shot a while ago and somewhat delayed in its release by the merger between Summit and Lionsgate, You're Next finally reveals its true face in the UK on August 23.
