What do you get if you cross the poster for Road To Perdition and Johnny Depp? Why, the new poster for Michael Mann's Public Enemies*, in which Depp plays legendary outlaw John Dillinger opposite Christian Bale's lawman.
The film's been shooting in Wisconsin and Illinois, and tells the story of FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Bale) and his attempts to capture Dillinger and his notorious gang. His contemporaries included Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum), Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi), Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Homer Van Meter (Stephen Dorff). Billy Crudup plays legendary FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover.

The previous paragraph, incidentally, proves two things. First of all, that people had much more interesting names in the 1930s. Secondly, Michael Mann's assembled a very interesting cast. The film's out here on July 3.
*Not to be confused with Public Enemy, although I'm sure they'd agree with many of their less police-friendly sentiments.
