If you were impressed by / horrified by / jealous of Kit Harington’s abs in the first picture from Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii yesterday, prepare to be happy / disgusted / even more annoyed that you can see him in moving footage form thanks to the first teaser trailer for the film.
With Anderson still in the middle of locking down his cut, this is a trailer heavy on the tease, with a stern voice-over talking up the lava drama surrounding the titular city and shots of fossilised victims. Then we get a few images of Harington, screen lady love Emily Browning and gladiator pal Adewale Akinnuoye-Abaje, plus a few pieces of action before we cut to black.
Lots of things are on fire (naturally, given what the whole volcanic eruption) and there’s plenty of doom and gloom to be found in the tale of a Celtic gladiator (Harington) who falls for a Roman noblewoman (Browning) when she’s inconveniently promised to a nasty senator (Kiefer Sutherland) and the historic eruption of Vesuvius is about to make any love triangles an ashen afterthought.
Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jessica Lucas round out the cast, and Pompeii will smoke our screens on February 28, 2014.
