If the announcement of Mr Nobody was followed by the words "directed by Spike Jonze/Michel Gondry/Darren Aronofsky*" it would go immediatedly to the upper levels of the must-see list. As it's directed by Jaco Van Dormael, the Belgian director of The Eighth Day (the Palme D'Or nominated but ever so slightly cloying and manipulative tale of the burgeoning friendship between a selfish businessman and an orphan with Downs Syndrome) who hasn't made a film in over a decade, we're currently keeping it filed under potentially interesting curio.
Dormael has been trying to mount the film for the best part of six years. It's the future-set tale of a 120-year-old man named Nemo Nobody (oh god, really?!) who is the last mortal man on earth, where everyone else has become immortal for reasons not explained in the story over at The Hollywood Reporter. Jared Leto has been signed to play the ancient man who is remembering his romantic entanglements through the ages, with Sarah Polley also onboard in an unspecified role – most likely someone with a romantic interest in whatever the term is for people in their twelfth decade. Duodecegenarians, maybe?
