Penelope Cruz is hoping a little Bollywood spirit will help boost her career.
She’s signed up to star in Passion India, based on Javier Moro’s novel. The book was inspired by the true story of a 17-year-old flamenco dancer from Andalusia who shocked her countrymen – and India – by marrying a maharaja and moving to the Asian subcontinent. Though no other cast members have been formally announced, she’s joining a cast of Bollywood stars with a shoot planned for Spain and India.
Before that can happen, though, she’ll have to complete bullfighting tale Manolete alongside Adrien Brody. And Cruz fans can get plenty of chances to see her. She’s next appearing in Bandidas, about two female thieves, with Salma Hayek and is part of Pedro Almodovar’s comedy Volver, which will show in Cannes.
